Argo review

Argo is a movie that is right up my alley. Based on history? Specifically, an operation of the Cold War? Sign me up! But did it live up to its promising premise?

Argo is a very tense film. Just about everything it does keeps you on the edge of your seat, and makes you anxious to see if the main characters make it out of their predicament. There isn't a single dull moment, and it's all very fast paced. The movie doesn't feel like two hours, yet that's it's run time. This rapidly alternating tension makes the climax that much more satisfying.

It's not all drama, though. Several parts are quite humorous, making light of the darker subject matter. The early portion of the movie is relatively lighthearted. After that, the film gets a lot darker, with drama and tension being far more common than comic relief. The characters, especially the protagonist, are reasonably likable, making them easier to care about, and making the tension and drama more effective.

In conclusion, Argo really does meet the hype. It's a film worth seeing, and probably one of the best of the year.
