MLP Episode Review: One Bad Apple

The Cutie Mark Crusaders? In a GOOD EPISODE? It's a miracle!

One Bad Apple was a very pleasant surprise for me. I usually dislike the episodes starring the Cutie Mark Crusaders, but this avoided every single issue I had with those.

One problem I have is that the CMC are overly focused on a single issue, their cutie marks. This episode skims over the cutie marks idea, just using it as a common ground between the CMC and the new character.  After that, the idea is mostly used to show a difference in social standing and as a catalyst for the events.

Another issue I have is that they do not learn their lesson and have to re-learn it every time they appear. Last season, this stopped with "Ponyville Confidential", and it doesn't start again here.

Now, that's how the episode is not bad. The episode is good for several reasons. First of all, the conflict is well developed. While there is an easy solution proposed at the end, that would just serve as a catalyst for a far stupider conflict. Anyways, the conflict here is very detailed and well developed, and seems kind of prophetic, as it was probably written before Amanda Todd's death put bullying back in the limelight. It isn't directly anti-bullying, but it approaches the subject with tact and intelligence, and I couldn't be happier.

Secondly, the episode is simply hilarious. There's some references put out to the fandom, and several silly things happen, as is to be expected. Vegetable salad.

I have a good feeling about this season. So far, each episode has been absolutely fantastic, and I hope it continues being that way.
