Pacific Rim review

Wow. I mean, wow. Pacific Rim is easily the best theater experience I've had all year. It's action-packed, intense, and overall just a pleasure to sit through.

Pacific Rim is of course an action movie, which means that the action is the most important part. Thankfully, the action is thrilling and cohesive. Unlike worse examples of the genre, Pacific Rim's action is clear and easy to sit through-but honestly, that's just the bones that hold it together. The real meat of Pacific Rim comes from the cinematography, which manages to punctuate emotional scenes and truly show off the action. The amount of great wallpapers that could be made from this movie is incredible. In case this doesn't satisfy you, the characters are likable and compelling enough to keep your attention, and to invest you in the film. All this comes together to an amazing experience.

Now, Pacific Rim is not without its flaws. Some of the ideas seem ridiculous, although the execution still manages to make them work. If you're expecting a deeper work because of the director, this movie does have its fair share of cliches and stereotypes, plus the characters aren't overly complex. However, in the face of such a movie as this, these are small complaints. I would recommend Pacific Rim to anyone who doesn't despise CGI monsters and robots.
