Fargo episode review: A Muddy Road

Fargo keeps getting better and better.
The third episode of Fargo opens with a flashback to the murder that the season opened on. We see how Lorne killed this fellow, but we don't know why. Molly is investigating, and now knows Lorne's face-which means that all three of our protagonists are connected directly to him. Thus, Lorne can be said to be the main character of the show, as he is the focal point bringing everything together.

Gus is finally coming clean about seeing Lorne in the first episode, and has traced the car back to Lester-and to the murders in Bemidji. Molly, meanwhile, has had another run-in with Lester, this time more sneakily. The two compare their notes, which complement each other. This culminates

Lester is experiencing guilt, so he tries to get his mind off it by going back to work. Now, Lester's character development isn't as immense as it was in the previous episode, but he's showing signs of breaking down. It'll be interesting to see where he goes over time.

Of course, the humour's still there-in fact, even more so. This is probably the funniest episode yet. The humour is often dark, but it's still laugh-out-loud funny. Fargo's greatest strength is the blending of humour and drama in a strange package that makes it so unique, and this episode was the best example of it so far.

Fargo airs on Tuesday nights on FXX.
