Fargo episode review: The Six Ungraspables

It's going to be really hard to wait for next week.

This week's Fargo is past the turning point. We're around halfway through, and things have changed. The pieces are coming together, but things are more uncertain than ever. Before, there was only the question of if Malvo would get caught. Now, the toll the mystery is taking on each of the characters is evident. It's less certain who's safe. The question is now "will they survive to catch him".

Another thing this episode brings to Fargo is an air of poignancy. The atmosphere has an element of solemnity now, given just how exhausted everyone is of this whole chase. We're growing glad to see that this is over with. New depths are explored, and the series reaches a thematic high point.

What if they're right and you're wrong? That is the question that embodies this series. Gus' main conflict is based around it. Molly's story is this question proven. Lester's is the consequences. And Lorne ties them all together. A friend of Gus' tells him a parable, attempting to help him find answers. Unfortunately, the answers are not to be found in this episode.

While that is true, it's also true that this episode makes those answers feel just a little bit closer. So, what will happen to Lester? Will Gus be safe? How will they find Malvo? And what's to become of Milos? We don't know, but there's four episodes left to find out.

Four entire weeks. It'll be a hard wait for the final answers, but we're on the upswing. Malvo no longer has such a large lead. He's still ahead of the game, but only slightly. His plan is still going through, but at last we're seeing the slightest semblance of a crack.

That's our ray of hope. It's what we'll need to hold on to in the wait for next week.
