"No" review

"No" is not a movie that gets to every theater. It's not in English, it's not even in HD. However, it is still a brilliant piece of cinema.

The movie benefits from a base of some very strong writing. It makes you feel like you're with the NO, and makes the conflict feel personal even through it isn't. The depiction of the times are fascinating, but not as much as the characters. They have unique personalities, and are all basically likable at the very least. The movie doesn't simply tell you, "NO are the good guys", it goes in to convince you that the NO is the right group. It makes the conclusion so much more satisfying despite the fact that the audience may already know it.

On top of that, the performances were great. Each of these actors played their part without seeming like they were acting. You saw the characters, not the actors. The subtitles were also excellent, making the plot easy to follow and conveying the characters and dialogue very well. Finally, the cinematography, despite not being in HD, was very good, with some nice camera movements at times and really helping the tone of the movie.

If it's in a theater near you, I would highly recommend it.
