Random Access Memories review

For my first ever album review, I present the new album from Daft Punk, entitled Random Access Memories.

What we have here is something amazing. Daft Punk started out as a techno group, and they are still a techno group. However, Random Access Memories could easily be called a disco or funk album, as it shows some heavy influence from those genres. This is a comeback, a re-imagining, and a revival all at once. Daft Punk is coming back, and they're bringing disco with them.

Each track is an absolute joy to listen to, with some truly exhilarating heights and some genuinely beautiful songs. Each moment is dripping with passion. This is an album about Daft Punk's love of music, and it shows. Some tracks get down with a funky groove, some tone it down for quieter melodies, and some are good for just chilling, but each one is great.

The album is best defined by the songs "Give Life Back to Music" and "Giorgio by Moroder", both of which are related to Daft Punk's vision to revive this disco/funk genre, and the passion that they have for the project. They want to bring back the soul, and they did. These songs aren't emotionless pop, like the songs that tend to make up the end of an era. These are all works of emotion, and again shows Daft Punk's love for this music. From the soaring pop heights of "Get Lucky" to the instrumental "Motherboard", each song comes together as an expression of Daft Punk's love for music.

Now, I'm actually a bit of a pop fan, so I might disagree with a stated mission of "rejuvenating" pop that Daft Punk or their fans might mention. However, I cannot deny that this album does outclass all of the other electronica and pop that is currently out there, and is a very strong start to my album reviews.
