Zero Dark Thirty review

Y'know, I decided that this counts as a 2013 movie, so I'll need something to link back to come the year-end list.

Back in February, I watched Zero Dark Thirty. I was awestruck. Controversial as it may be, it really deserves all of the praise it's gotten.

Many people have attacked Zero Dark Thirty under the interpretation that it's simple. The thing is, it's not. It's complex. The movie doesn't give easy answers-it just shows you things and leaves you to interpret them. And by the end, you have a lot to think about. And isn't that the definition of cerebral?

Of course, this wouldn't exactly matter if it wasn't engaging. Those critics that don't compliment the movie's cerebral nature compliment its strength as a thriller. It's got a slow buildup, but it serves to create tension and establish characters. The movie holds your attention, which supports its uncompromising narrative.

It's quite the achievement. Honestly, there is very little doubt that this film will appear in my top 10 at the end of the year. Now, it's been out for a long time, so if you somehow missed it, then now is your reminder.
