The World's End review

It's been a while since I saw a comedy in cinemas. I mean, sure, I watched Warm Bodies earlier this year, but that was on-demand. The World's End doesn't disappoint-it's absolutely fantastic.

Now, being a comedy, there's the expectation going in that it will be funny. Thankfully, it is-The World's End has no lack of laughs. The movie is flat-out hilarious, which is helped by a smart script and wonderful performances from the every single actor. The directing may also add to this, as I doubt the humour would be nearly as fantastic had the director been worse.

But the qualities of the film don't end there. The film is packed with action, with several great fight scenes-though explaining the context would be a spoiler. There are a number of emotional moments that grant the characters additional depth. The film is not bereft of heart, with the characters being likable and the narrative has enough great moments that at least one of them will make you smile.

The film also has some surprisingly tense moments. These are courtesy of its antagonists, who carry a large amount of menace. But the film never loses its fun charm, even at its darkest.

This is one of the best movies of the year, without a doubt. It is not one to be missed, and being a wide-release, it's not that hard to miss either.
