Same Trailer Different Park review

Look, I'm just going to cut to the chase here. This is the year's best album so far. I implore you to get a hold of it as soon as possible, because it is essential listening regardless of your stance on country music.

Anyways, with that out of the way, let me explain the layers to the pure brilliance of Same Trailer Different Park. It starts out with some great, fun tunes which are absolutely non-indicative of the album's tone. The construction of these songs is fantastic, getting slower as the album goes on and gets darker and more depressing. Musgraves' voice is beautiful, and she sings each song with conviction. The instrumentalists are also amazing, backing up each song to be as fun or as beautiful as it needs to be.

Next is the variety of the songs. The album can be seen as a sort of love letter to country, having all sorts of different subjects and themes. Many are about a relationship, but some are normal inspirational ballads or just your average enjoyable fluff. But even the enjoyable fluff is expertly crafted, and it really does provide ironic contrast to how the whole thing turns out.

Finally, the lyrics are outstanding. The album is a mature collection of tales about various people and the challenges they face, with each story being deeper than the last. Many tell of relationships gone wrong, and almost all speak about flawed people that can be related to. It's an emotional album that is sure to provoke a strong response, and it's brilliant.

As said, I consider this the best album of the year so far. It is a must-buy, and I can't recommend it enough.
