Wreck-It Ralph review

So, Disney released a 3D movie. How is it?

Before Wreck-It Ralph, there is a short called Paperman. This short is incredibly charming, with breathtaking cell-shaded animation. On it's own, it's worth checking out.

Then there's the main feature. Make no mistake, Wreck-It Ralph is one of the best movies I have seen all year. The characters are interesting and deep, the plot is complex and intricate, the animation is smooth and fluent... I can't express my love for this film enough.

As said, the characters are very well developed. Each one has its own complexities and feelings, although sometimes they are cliche. The thing is, it all works. If a character is cliche, it's a parody of cliche characters. There isn't a single unoriginal part to this movie.

Next there's the animation. Wreck-It Ralph is beautiful. It brilliantly creates a world inside an arcade, with each little bit of it hiding a new level of intelligence. The movie understands its source material, and does an amazing job working with it.

All subplots mesh together perfectly. The themes are deep and interesting. The humor... Wreck-It Ralph delights in satirizing video game cliches. Every joke given is hilarious in its own right. Yet, it's also emotional-this film wrought more emotion out of me than any other this year.

If you haven't yet, see this movie. That's a command, soldier.
